Creative talent begins early on, and we offer both in and after school programs. Whether your child is ready for a beginners photography course or an exciting photo excursion, we’ll teach them the essentials they need to shoot and develop wonderful images. Not to mention that those whose passion is to be in front of the camera are given support to nurture that gift. The children learn to see the world creatively, telling visual stories as well as working proactively in groups to instil.

The Concept
The Blackboy Story Lab is a 15 week audio visual production training and mentorship program that focuses on practical applications of both technical and editorial media production skills that equip our trainees with competence and geared towards producing self motivated employable youth that are ready for the media market.
We have an intensive 10-unit curriculum that focuses on raising a new generation media content creator. The training also offers digital soft-skills and business development coaching to prepare them for our ever changing digital landscape and also equips our trainees with business management skills for those that want to start their own businesses.
The TV & Film industry is very wide, competitive but full of opportunities thus offering specialized training that targets to bring the best out of an individual. We also give an intensive digital soft-skills coaching and business development training to prepare them for our ever changing digital landscape and also equips our trainees with business management skills for those that want to start their own businesses.

Course Outline
1. Media Ethics
It is important that our trainees be aware of the principles that guide their practice.
2. Production
This course examines how narrative films are created by developing an understanding of the underlying principles of film making.
3. Cinematography
The goal of the course is for trainees to develop the ability to visualize the artistic and cinematic look of a scene and capture good picture and sound.
4. Directing
It is necessary to understand the process of making a film: pre-production, production and post-production. A brief overview of how films are made will be given to the students.
5. Audio Production
The goal of this course is to introduce the students to the basic principles of the art and science of sound production
and design.
6. Scripting
The course exposes trainees to the elements of cinematic storytelling and central principles of what makes a good script.
7. Video Editing
The goal of the course is for the trainees to develop the ability to
piece up video and audio material with graphics, music to
tell a story.
8. Digital Products
The goal of this course is to equip our trainees with the skills to effectively create and sell digital products and how to effectively use digital space to offer solutions..
9. Business Development/ Career Placement
This course prepares our trainees for the job market with skills and competences to compete at the top level.
10. Copyright & Intellectual Property.
This course trains our students on intellectual works and the laws of copyright to allow our trainees protect their intellectual works.

The Process
The training is open to young Kenyans of below 30 years old of all genders. The applicants do not require any prior media training to be part of the film lab; they however need to be passionate about media production and show some level of creativity in their application.
Applicants are required to send in together with their applications three fresh ideas; one feature story idea, one tv show idea and a radio feature idea that will also serve as their projects later into the training. We are market driven and our main emphasis is on the results. What is our trainee able to do at the end of our training and mentorship? What income generating opportunities are available to ensure that whoever goes through this training gains both social and economic empowerment. We are quality driven and our projects must exhibit maximum professional value that is competitive in the market.
